Best stuff = what is most suited for your build.

Obviously, you're early in the game.

Corwen is the best armor crafter in Ascalon, and his stuff isn't beaten for a long time in the game.

Pyromancer and hydromancer are better choices than the other two. It's a really close call which of the two is better, but I think pyro. Note that the choice of armor and the choice of magic type have nothing to do with each other.

You should have 9 or higher in your best attribute. The best or almost best weapons are gotten from collectors in the desert. People will sell you these earlier for a fee. The wand is easy to get for 2000 gold; if you're lucky you can get it for 1000; it does maximum damage and has a very nice 20% chance of fast recharge. The flame artifact is possible but a little harder to get for the same prices. It has maximum energy and 20% each chance of fast recharge and fast casting.

Grab the Ele collector items from either Crystal Desert or Southern Shiverpeaks (to your taste). Also the green items from Sorrow's Furnance are very nice.

Green Items - http://www.guildwiki.org/wiki/Unique_items_list
Southern Shiverpeaks - http://www.guildwiki.org/wiki/Genera...Shiverpeaks%29
Crystal Desert - http://www.guildwiki.org/wiki/Genera...stal_Desert%29

Why would one want to use Rago's Wand instead of the collector's wand, looks/conspicuous consumption aside?

Rago's is better (same as collector but has another benfit / boon added to it) but costs way more then getting a hold of the collector's wand....

Not exactly. Rago's has 10% global recharge versus the collectors 20% fire magic recharge. I prefer the latter mod.

Opps, I need to double check the stats, I perfer 20% fire chance if I'm mostly fire.
